Group Formed For Mccarthy

Letters announing formation of a "Washtenaw Democrats for McCarthy" have been sent to "several hundred active and interested Democrats" in the county, The group is seeking support for the presidential aspirations of Sen. Eugene McCarthy who is opposed to the Johnson Administration's policies in Vietnam.The letter asks for financial aid and volunteer help to work for McCarthy's nomination for president. A spokesman for the group said it was formed as a result of informal meetings over the past several weeks of Democrats are concerned that the present Vietnam policy has involved the, United States in a land war in Asia with no forseeable outcome except further devastation. The spokesman said McCarthy's candidacy would offer an effective alternative to this policy. Included in the membership of the organization is Mrs. Jean King, a member of the Democratic State Central Committee, , Walter Scheider, vice chairman of the Ann Arbor Democratic Party, and former Ann Arbor Board of Education President Lloyd T. Williams Jr.
