I A revised proposaf for an Affirmative Action Program was approved by the Ánn Arbor Board of Education last jlight. " This program would attempt to insure 'that firms doing business with the Public Schools would not discrimínate "against employés or applicants because 'of race, creed, color, natural origin, age pr sex. ! The contractor, vendor subcontractor lor supplier providing foods or services Jirectly or indirectly to the schoots "would be required to sign a contract saying the firm would not discrimínate." The firm would also have to issue 'a policy regarding equal employment JÊpportunity and communicate this to all peïsonnel. I The plan was proposed by Dr. Robert Potts, human relations ombudsman for he public schools, and according to him, the plan would be setting no precedent, but instead would be a "belated imove" by the Ann Arbor Public Schools, e also said this program would be tompatible with city laws, Civil Rights Commission directives and a similar plan now under way within the Detroit Public Schools. Under the program, contractors would ■ie required to send to each labor unión a notice ad vising the union of the eontract. If the contractor did not comply with the nondiscrimination clauses of I the contract, the contract would be I minated or suspended in whole or in part and the contractor "may be declared ineligible for further Board of Education contracts."
