Last night's negotiating meet-l ing between representatives of the Board of Education and Arm Arbor Teachers' Association (AATA) was a "productive sesaion on non-economie matters." This was Trustee Joseph R. Julin's appraisal of the meeting, during which Article IV of the m a s t e r agreement was discussed in detail. The article deals with personnel rights. According to both Julin andl Donald Newsted, president of the AATA, only a few minor changes in Article IV will probably be incorporated into the 1968-69 contract. The AATA next week plans to present a salary counter-proposal to the Board of Education, in response to the board's latest fringe-benefit and salary offers. The board's negotiating team last week offered fully-p a i d health and accident insurance to all teachers and their dependents, or $10 per month for other options available. The board stipulated that the cost of this package, however, could not exceed the $10,500 which the board has on hand for this purpose. For teachers below Step 10 on the salary schedule, the board has offered the normal yearly increases which are specified in the 1967-68 contract. For veteran teachers (ber yong Step 10), the school board is offering $200 raises. This proposed hike would mean an increase in the veteran teachers' maximum salaries from $10,14C tr $10,340 for those with bacheIor's degrees, and from $11,070 to $11,270 for teachers with master's degrees. The AATA, in turn, has proposed a $2 million pay and fringe-benefit package.
