A boundar? change betweei! Tappan and Scarlett Junior High schools which will affect 71 children from the Dixboro School area was approved last night by the Ann Arbor Board of Education. The vote was 5-2. voung i againstthechange were I Trustee Ted Heusel and School I Board President Joseph R. 1 in. [ Approval of the change was 'tabled last week after a number of Dixboro parents presented the trustees with a petition "strongly urging" that the change not be made. Several parents again attended last night's meeting. I The boundary switch was recommended by School Supt. W. ScottWesterman Jr. because of anticipated overcrowding at Scarlett until the fifth junior high school opens- hopefully in September of 1971. Westerman said the üonfëëïsScarlett should not be overtaxed while Tappan is under capacity. Next year, Westerman said, if the boundary change were not made, Scarlett would be overcrowded by about 150 students. This would require additional portable classrooms, he said. One father criticized tne recommendation, saying the board will have to face the same overcrowding problem next year if the Scarlett attendance área continúes to grow as anticipated. Westerman agreed, saying there will be no final solution to the problem untü the fifth junior high opens. The 19 students who would be ninth graders at Scarlett next fall will be allowed to remain there if they wish. The 52 prospective seventh and eighth graders will be transferred to Tappan untü the fifth junior high opens. Beginning in September of 1970, all students from the Dixboro area will be assigned to Tappan until the opening of the I fifth junior high. The new school is to be located at Bluett and Nixon Rds. near Orchard Hills Subdivisión.
