David Trost was appointed deputy superintendent for operations for the Ann Arbor School District last night by the Board of Education. Trost, assistant superintendent for field operations since July, succeeds Frederick Holliday who left earlier this month to become an elmentary school principal in Philadelphia. The new deputy superintendent will receive an annual salary of $28,750, the same as Holliday. Replacing Trost will be Emerson Powrie, the principal at Dicken since 1969. He will receive an annual salary of $25,750 as the newly appointed assistant superintendent for operations. "My reconamendation of Trost was strongly influenced by his performance this past six months as assistant superintendent," McPherson said. "Serious consideration was also given to several other fine candidates, both from inside and outside the school syStem." A native and long-time resident of Ann Arbor, Trost holds a BA degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and received his MA and PhD degrees from the University of Michigan. He was principal at Eberwhite Elementary School for z ccsr o aj three years prior to assuming his central administrative post last year. Earlier, he was principal at Stone Elementary School from 1964 to 1968, taught at Mack for four years, and was a teaching fellow at University High School, also in Ann Arbor, during 1959-60. Trost has also served as a visiting lecturer in education at both the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. Trost and his wife reside with their three daughters at 2476 Bunker Hill Rd. Powrie has been an administrator in the school district since 1950, serving as principal of Jones, Burns Park and Wines Elementary Schools prior to moving to Dicken. Earlier, he taught at Slauson Junior High School and Ann Arbor High School. Following completion of the pre-law program at Flint Junior College, Powrie, received his BA degree from the University of Michigan in 1936. He was awarded an MA in educational administration by the University in 1941. Powrie is active in several local civic organizations and is a member of a number of national and state educational associations. Other Board of Education news appears on Page 33. --
