For instance, a small increase in expense in elementary reading I might save money on remedial teaching, or disruptive lyouth programs, in later lyears. The new millage reIquest seems reasonable. I like rSupt. Harry Howard's gradual I approach, especially in restorI ing the cut programs. l Planning: anybody who eau I count ought to be able to get a Ipretty good picture of how I many students are going to be I in a school the folio wing year. I It is necessary to do someIthing with the information. iLast minute decisions, and Isurveys after a decisión is I made, is just bad procedure.' The U-M Bureau of School I Services study is a step in tho I right direction. I hope maxI imum use will be made of the I results. It is possible to see I what has succeeded and failed I in other systems. Careful I study of the research and othI er systems will prevent exI perimenting with students. Middle schooljunior high: I how long are we going to be in I a transition period? Either I one or the other, but a deciI sion should be made. I think I the middle school has more 1 - positive potential. Communityschools: the board supports this concept. I'd like to know if anything has been done, if there is any movement in this direction. Taxpayers seem to have reached the point where they balk at paying for buildings used one half of the year, by one-fifth of the people, for one-third of the day.
