TÍÍancírie Lansing, Ann Arbopfesident and unsuccessful candidate for the U-M Board of Regente in 1972, says she will announce her candidacy for the Democratie nomination to the U.S. House of Representatives from the Second Congressional District next Monday. As a campaign kick-off, "Students for Lansing" at the U-M are sponsoring a speech by Gloria Steinem, an editor and I writer for Ms. Magazine, at 8 p.m. next Monday at the Power Center. The Steinem speech will be a fund raisec for Mrs. Lansing. i Other announced candidates in the I Democratie race include: John S. I er of Ypsilanti, nephew of the late Walter I P: Reuther, and Dr. Edward Pierce, I rector of the Summit Street Medical I ic. Republican iricumbent Marvin L. Esch I is expected to seek another term. Mrs. Lansing, of 1825 Geddes Ave., is a I professor of political science at Eastern Michigan University. She has been a long-time worker in Ann Arbor Democratie politics and in 1972 led the DemoI cratic slate in balloting for the U-M ReI gents post. On April 9 she will open her . camI paigns in Livonia and Monroe. - Steinem's work has appeared in more I than 12 major U.S. publications in the last 10 years. She has written for film, televisión and several political campaigns, "most notably those of Robert Kennedy, George McGovern, and Shirley Chisholm. She also worked for the United Farm Workers unión headed by Cesar Chavez. She serves on the Advisory Board of ' the National Organization of Women and is generally regarded as one of the leadnrs in the women's movement today.
