Esch's Office Here Cited For Having Illegal Sign

Ann Arb"ór Congressman Marvin Esch's campaign headquarters on Washtenaw Avenue near Hurón Parkway has been cited by the city's Building and Safety Engineering Department for having an illegal sign. The department has sent a letter to the headquarters telling officials there to either take down the sign, or gain approval from the Sign Board of Appeals for a special exemption to the law. Department inspectors say the nonconforming sign was apparently painted over another sign used on the site when it was the Friar Tuck's Restaurant. The restaurant was allowed to maintain the sign because it was erected before Ann Arbor's sign law went into effect, but that right did not transfer when Esch's campaign staff moved in. No one at the campaign headquarters was available for comment.
