Historical Preservation Ordinance Is Approved
An amded Historical Preservation Ordinance was given unanimouus final reading approval by the City Council last night, the document giving the city power to créate historical districts and preserve dwellings within these districts. The ordinance follows closely the lines of the new state law on historical preservation It calis for the creation of a sevenmember Historie District Commission [which shall recommend to council the establishment of historical districts. I On -e the council has approved creation lof these districts, the commission will y have power to review plans for demolition, remodeling or renovation in addition to seeing that dwellings are maintained properly. The ordinance specifically excludes projects being reviewed by the commission which are undertaken by governmental bodies for public improvements. The ordinance further provides the city, if deemed necessary, shall have the power to purchase certain historical structures if other efforts to preserve thenj lail. jMMM
