Housing Units Now Official
y i Ground-breaking ceremonies have signalled the official construction start of the city's 151 public housing units, to be built on nine sites. City officials w e r e present Thursday for earth-shoveling at one of the sites, Dexter and Maple Rds. The other locations are: Winewood at Thaler, Maple at Liberty, Washington at Seventh, and on Glenwood, wood, Packard, Platt and Green Roads. The total estimatéd cost of the development, according to Mrs. Joseph D. Mhoon, Housing Director, is $3,095,500 or approximately $20,500 per unit. Planned are 10 one-bedroom duplexes ; 30 two-bedroom townhouses; 69 three-bedroom townhouses ; 10 four-bedroom homes and 15 four-bedroom townhouses and 17 five-bedroom homes. All but nine of the one-bedroom duplexes have full basements, and all units will have front and back yards. City and housing commission officials, past and present spoke at Thursday's ceremonies. Rep. Marvin L. Esch, originally scheduled to attend, was not present. He sent a telegram saying: "Regret I am unable to tend your ground-breaking this ai'tcrnoon.
