David H. Ponitz, president of Washtenaw Community College since WCC was established in 1965, is expected to make an announcement Wednesday regarding a report, so far unconfirmed, that he has accepted the presidency of Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. Ponitz declined comment this morning, beyond confirming that he has been interviewed for the Sinclair College presidency, vacated by the Sept. 1 retirement of Marvin C. Knudson. Ponitz, 43,-áaid he has received no notification of action being taken bv Sinclair College's seven-member elected board to fill the vacancy, but added "look for a release tomorrow." A luncheon meeting of WCC trustees was called on short notice late this morning, but the subject to be discussed was not announced. Sinclair Community College spokesman Robert Barr said this morning formal action on selection of a new presient was taken by Sinclair College's Board of Trustees Oct. 10. However, Barr said he is authorized to say only "The search for a replacement for Marvin C. Knudson has been completed. The selection is expected to be announced by midNovember. The current involvements of the new president preclude an earlier announcement." Ponitz "current involvements" include campaigning for renewal of one mili of WCC's local tax levy in the Nov. 5 election, and chairmanship of the local United Fund campaign. Neither the chairman of Sinclair College' s board, James McSwiney, nor the vice chairman, Harold L. Boda, could be contacted today. Efforts to contact WCC Board chairman Anthony J. Procassini were also unsuccessful. A report stating Pontiz is expected to become Sinclair College's new president sometime this fall or winter was scheduled to appear this afternoon in the Dayton Daily News, on the basis of that paper's local news contacts. Ponitz is presently employed under a three-year contract with WCC, at $37,500 yearly. Sinclair Community College is located on a two-year-old $32 million campus in downtown Dayton, and an an enrollment of about 9,000, including many part-time students, representing an increase of about 13 per cent over last fall's total. The college was founded as a YMCA institution in 1887 and became a publicly financed community college in 1965. WCC's current enrollment of about 5, 200, also including many part-time studente, represents an 18 per cent increase over last year.
