Killed It Instantly

Tuesday forenoon a lively runaway occurred on Detroit street which resulted in the death of a valuable horse. The delivery horse of A. A. Meuth, the Detroit street butcher, started up from in front of a residence near the Catholic church, while the delivery boy was placing the weight to which the horse was attached into the sled, and turning on Division street came down to Detroit street at full speed evidently intending to turn in in front of Meuth's market. A team of young horses belonging to John Allen were tied on the south-west side of the street and the thill of the sled of the runaway horse struck one of these horses squarely in the breast, penetrating to the depth of a foot or more and killing it instantly. Meuth's horse backing up, ran over the fallen animal, leaving part of the sleigh upon it and was finally caught in the old school yard nearby. The horse which was killed, was a three year old and was one of a matched team. Mr. Allen would not have taken $200 for it.
