The Washtenaw Farmers Mutual Insurance company held their annual meeting Wednesday. The meeting was a very harmonious one. The matter of paying for some fence which had been burned was brought up but on motion was laid upon the table. The following board of directors was elected: H. D. Platt, John F. Spafford, E. A. Nordman, E. E. Leland and W. K. Childs. These were all reelections. The board of auditors was also reelected as follows: George Peters. George McDougall and Robert Campbell. The directors after the adjournment of the annual meeting reelected H. D. Platt, President, and W. K. Childs, Secretary. The animal report showed that there were 2,267 members of the company, 163 new members having been added during the past year and 85 having withdrawn. The property at risk is now $4,565,795 an increase of $109,690 over last year. The income from the year was $4866.88 which with the cash balance at the close of 1886 of $1,117.08 made a total of $5,084.56. The expenditures were $5018.17 for losses, $934.26 for salaries and fees and $340.31 for postage, rent, printing, etc. The assessment for the year was $1 per $1,000 insurance, the company having just closed an exceedingly profitable year. To show how much damage lightning does, the Argus reporter collated the losses by lightning and found that out of 17 paid for losses, $2749.29 was paid for losses by lightning. The loss during December from all causes was $3.50. Two dollars of this was paid to W. K. Guerrin, of Sylvan, for damage to carpet, December 2nd, and $1.50 to H. H. Boyd, of Sylvan, for damage to his house.
