The manufacturing of the Sutberland Qre truck will be done in Grand Rapids. As the inventor lived in this city, Ann Arbor at one time had an excellent chance to get the factory. The Grand Rapids Telegrara-Herald of last Thursday contains the following which will doubtless interest some of our readers. The Michigan Fire Ladder and Truck Company, of Grand Rapids, filed cíes oí association with the Secretary of State on Tuesday, February 21. The company is organized with a capital stock of $100,000, 43 per cent, of which is already paid in. The incorporators are Hon. John W. Moon, of Muskegen; A. V. Mann, of Muskegon; R. M. Svigert, of St. Johns and James Campbell, Andrew J. Sutherland, E. Ï. Sutherland, Arthur Meigs, I. M. Weston, Samuel A. Morman, D. C. ünderwood, A. Owen Crozier, Matthew C. Lewis, J. W. l'ennell, C. H.Cornell andE. II. Toóle of Grand Rapid3. ïke officers are Hon. John VV. Moon, president; James Campbell, vice-president; A. üwen Crozier, secretary and treasurer; Andrew J. Sutherland, superintendent. The d'rectors are John W. Moon, Arthur Meigs, James Campbell, Matthew C. Lewis, Samuel A. Morman, J. VV. Pennell, R. M. Swigert and Audrew J. Sutherland. The following gentlemen were selected as theexecutive coramittee: Senator John W. Moon, D. C. Ünderwood, A . Owen Crozier, James Campbell, A. J. Sutherland. The company is organized for the purpose of manufacturing extensión h're-ladder trucks, and within ninety days they will erect a f actory 40x80 feet at the intersection of the Grand Rapids, Lansing & Detroit railroad and the Reed's Lake branch, near Oakdale l'ark, where they have secured a very convenient site and they will break ground at once. This will be the onlv factory of these trucks in the Unitod States. The truck is a ivonderful piece of mechanicism and is without doubt the most compact, simple and efficiënt contri vanee ever inven ted for the purpose. It is so compact that no tiller is requiied for guiding the rear wheels, and it can be turned around in its own length- twelve feet from axle to axle. Two men are able to erect a ladder sixty-five feet in the air and incline it against a building at any height. The extensión ladder is in three sections and can be elevated to tbe height of sixty-five feet in ten seconds. Four men comprise the crew and it requires a power of only flfty pounds to elévate the six-hundred pound ladder. The enterprise is a yaluable acquisition to the city and will help to boom Grand Rapids manufacturing interests in general, and Oakdale Tark in particular.
