Newton, Knns., March 3. - A eyclone struck Newton at 5 oVlcx-k Thursday night. The north wiug of the carriago works was unroofed and Vrilliam J. Lacey, in attempting to run trom the building, was caught by the falling roof and instantly killed. A cluster of dwellings, nine in numoer, in the southeast part of the city was struek by the storm and Beven of them totally destroyed, and in the wreek of one of them two ladies were caught and Mrs. Smith had her shoulder broken, and Miss Hobbell was stmck on the head and is still uneonscious, and thought to be fatally injured. The tower to the high school building was wreoked, c-himneys blowii down, ti-ees and shrubbery destroyed, stables demolished, and several bead of horses killed. The damage is estimated at S50,6oO.
