Dubois, Pa., June 19.- A fire broke out at 1 o'clock in the afternoon in the Baker hpuse, on Railroad avenue, in the center oL the town, and, oiving to the high wind blowing at the time, it could uot be controlled until it had destroyed the whole business portion of the town aud several hundred residences. The loss is put by insurancj agents at L1,000,0U0, but this is probably a large estímate, and as most of the insurance is written outside of the town the agents who have placed the most of it can not be seen to ob.ain any figures. . An área a mile long by an average of most half a mile wide, extendiug f rom the Rochester collieries store to the Serpe house, and to the extreme end of Long street, on the east side of town, is a complete ruin. Blackened walls and piles of coals ar? all that are lef t of one of the most prosperous ■ towns within 100 miles. Three thousand people are ehelterles3 and destitute and in need of immediate aid, or they must suffer. The flames spread so rapidly that many of them escaped with barely the clothiug which they wore. The origin of the flre could not be determinedL Various causes are given, but the most plausible is that a kitchen flue was detective. At midnigbt the fire had exhausted itse'.f , hav ing no more available ground to work on. The insurance is very light. Among the losses are the following: E. F.
