A German Minister In Disgrace

Mascoutah, Hls., Aug. 1. - Rev. John Merke, pastor of the Germán Lutheran church, suddenly left town on a freigql train. The alleged cause is a scandal. Miss Lizzie Sehneider, a reserved young lady is the unfortunate victim in the case. Being of a religious temperament she allied herself with the Germán Lutheran chureh, and, possessing some musical talent, she took a prominent part in the concerts given by that church last winter. For the concerts she rehearsed to tbe Rev. Mr. Merke, who it is alleged took advantage of her girlish simplio ity. Dr. Merke said he had been requested to resign, but that later developments would clear him.
