Chicago, Oct. 8. - Near Winnetka, fifteen railes north, íáunday afternooa, a party re turniug from a mitting excursión in Grosse Poüit wuods, vvere folíowed by three young farmers, wbo made insulting remarks and threw stones. Tbey were warned back by Peter Hersch, soa ota wealthy and respected citizea of South Evanston, but continuad heir lusiilade of stones. Finally the wife of Merscb waa hit, aad then himself, when he turned and Hred. Peter Poouse, one of the attacking party, feil, and expired almost instantly. ïbe party coDtinued their way to South Evanston, where Mersch gave himself up to the autborities.
