Hon. John D. Norton, the democratie candidato for state treasurer, a cut of whom is given with this article, was bom in New York in 1843. He passed his e.arly years on a farm, graduaten from Hamilton college in 1867 and came to this state the following year. He has been a highly successf ui business man and has ever been liberal with bis means in a ehaiïtable manner. Hehas twice served Oakland county in the ■state legisiature and is president of the Pontiac National bank. The Pontiac Bill Poster says of him: "Mr. Norton has been an euthusiast in any undertaking which tended to proraote the commercial interests of his locality ana possesses the confldence and respect of his neighbors as much as any man. He is in every way qualiüed'for the honorable and imporant position to which he has been nominated, and if elected will make a careful, competent officer.
