Evansville, Ind., Oct. 'Ló.-A somewüat reraarkaljle lliing took place in the river just elow this city. A few days sinoe the steainer Kohert B. Carson sunk in forty feet of water, togetber with thirty uead of cattle oontineiJ on the lower deck. For two or three rtnys a number of bands did all in their jower 10 raise the sunken boat, but without iTail, and the project was abandoned. Early the otter morning, however, to the surprise of one of the harbor boats, the pilot house and hurricane deck of the Carson suddenly appeared above the water. W'hen a crew was sent down the steamer was floating along, sustained and upheld by some mysterious agency. This was subsequently traeed to Mie cattle themselves, which had becorae inflated by gases generated in the careasses, and the combined buoyanoy of these dead bodies had actually lif ted the steamer to the surf ace. The boat sank again when they were cut loose. Okl steamboat men declare it the strangest oeeurrence in all their experience.
