The New Charge D'affaires

Washington City, Nov. 5. - Lady Her)ert, mother of the Hon. Michael Herbart, recently appointed charge d'affaires of the Jritish legation here, is the guest at Doughergan manor, Maryland, of ex-Governor and Mrs. Carroll. Lady Herbert i' an authoress of European celebrity. She is the moiher of teu children, her eldest son being ;he earl of Pembroke. She is devoting her ,alents and a large part of her income to charitable and religious work amongst the colored race, and, as an evidence of her earnestness in this respect, she givas the proceeds of the rental of her London house to the support of an orphanage of eigbty children in London. The raarriage of Mr. HerDert will take place in New York city on Sov. 27. The bride-elect is Miss "VVilson, and after ttair wedding journey they wil] come to this city, where Lady Herbert wil] aave provided a suitable establishment for ;hem. Lady Herbert has a large circle of American acquaintances, and her tour in this country will be replete wíth interest, Doth socially and in other ways.
