Do away with the board of pardons. One less namby pamby board . Henry Watterson predicts as complete a downfall for the republican party in 1892 as the whig party met 1852, when it carried only four states. Senator Hoar, of Massachusetts, whose pet hobby was the force bill, has been saying that the action oi the senate,in laying it aside, "means the death of the republican party." The entire executive and legislative work of the state of Michigan is in the hands of the democracy. The cry of that party during the campaign was for a reform of great wrongs said to exist in state aftairs. The responsibility for righting al wrongs lies with the democratie party Let the work proceed, gentlemen. - Coldwater Courier, The democratie legislature can make Michigan a democratie state, or can send it back to the republican column. A great responsibility rests upon the shoulders of our represen tatives. If they serve the people best, Michigan will be democratie Out with the barnacles. Reduce the army of office-holders. What i there are fewer offices to go around ? The mission of the democratie legis lators is not to make or retain of fices for democrats. It is to bes serve the people. The people are overburdened with taxation, state as well as national. Let the legislators remember this. Let them combine all theprison and reformatory boards into one, which, making itself famil iar with all our prisons and reforn schools, may adopt the best methods and also do away with the rivalry o the different boards in obtaining ap propriations, blood money from the people; let them do away with the game warden and his host of depu rĂes, and have the game laws en forced by sheriffs. Let them wipe out the sixty or seventy clerkship in the delinquent tax department o the auditor-general's office. Le them overhaul the other state offices lopping off sinecure clerkships What we want is democratie econ omy. What if the other fellow have held the fat offices for years and now is an opportunity for dem ocratic office-holders ! Is it not bet ter to look out for the pockets of the thousands of democrats who will no hold office? Is t not better to save the people's money than to favor the few? Gentlemen of the legislature the people are watching you.
