Lansing, Midi., Feb. 12.- Represen taive Botsford has introduced a bilí in the ïouse providing that perrons eugaged in he commission business must secure a Ícense and give bonds for the faithful erformanc6 of tbeir trust. Severul j oleomargarine bilis were presented. One requires that butterine, oleomargarine, and like substances must be colored pink. A bilí introduced by Senator Basone, one of the three Independent farmer Eenators, roviding for a uniform system of text )ooks, stirred up a hotfight in the senate. ?he bilí provides that after June, 1892, uniform text books shall be used in all he schools of the state, and that only the Snglish language shall be taught, no matter whether the school is graded or ungraded. Consideration was postponed. Lansistg, Mich., Feb. 13.- Yesterdiy Representad ve Miller introduced a bilí providing that lawyer members shall be irohibited from practicing their profession during the session. The attorney members scored a point in return by givng notice of a bilí prohibiting farmer : members from following their vocation during the session. A remarkable bill inroduced provides that the railroads of the state must transport members of the legislature and fifty pounds of baggage for each free of charge when the members are engaged upon legislative duty. Lansing, Mich., Feb. 14.- Representative Henze introduced a capital punishment bilí yesterday. It provides that "all murders which shall be perpetrated by means of poison, or lylng in wait, or any other kind of wülful, delibérate, and premeditated killing, or which shall be committed in the attempt to perpétrate any arson, rape, robbery, or burglary, shall be deemed murder of the first degree, and shall be punishable by death. He also introduced a bill for death in such cases by electrothansia. Senator Withington introduced a bill proving that the state employés, both departmental and those connected with the public institutions, shall come under civil service regulations. Representative Bathey presented a bill to so amend the jury laws as to permit majority verdicts. Both branches have adjourned until Monday night. Lansing, Mich., Feb. 18. - The legislature yesterday took a shy at trusts and combines. A bill introduced in the senate makes it a penal offense to be a member of auy combine, trust or syndicate organized to raise the price of any product or commodity or to advertise or sell any article the price of which is controlled by a trust. The penalty is a fine of from $100 to $1,000, or imprisonment from one to five years in the state's prison. Fixing Teleplione Rates. Senator McCormick introduced a bill fixing the monthly rental for telephones at S2.50 for each 'phone within a mile of the central office, and not over 25 cents additional for each additional mile. The house passed a joint resolution urging congress to adopt measures to secure the election of United States senators and the president and vice president by direct vote of the people.
