Snow Shrouds Wreckage: This is a daylight view of the crash scene, showing the snow-covered wreckage as it looked in this morning's brilliant sunshine. The plane came down just short of a large, water-filled gravel pit and not far from Ford Lake. Pieces of the craft were strewn over a wide area.

Tail Pretty Much Intact: About the only piece of the Navy plane recognizable as part of an aircraft was the tail section. The huge tail fin of the plane, a Navy version of the DC-4, loomed eerily in the snow-filled night sky.
