LAST DAY AT 117-YEAR-OLD BENTON SCHOOL: A program of music and dancing yesterday afternoon marked the last day of the last year for the Benton School, on US-112 west of Saline, which is to be abandoned. Though parents and grandparents may have experienced their nostalgic moments of sadness the youngsters had a high, old time, as the picture above shows.

All In One Classroom Students at Redeemer Lutheran School's one-room schoolhouse listen intently as Raymond Manthe, principal and teacher reads them a lesson. The school is one of three Lutheran elementary schools in Ann Arbor. All seven grades - kindergarten through sixth - are taught in the schoolhouse. Twenty-eight pupils attend classes at Redeemer Lutheran, which was built in 1946 and is supported by the Wisconsin Synod congregation of Lutherans here.

Frederick of 1741 Green Rd. holds the door open for his grandson. Edward Frederick, chairman of the Washtenaw Board of Supervisors, and his son, Laurance, both attended Popkins, where Bradley started kindergarten this week. Popkins School was built in 1879.
