Pictured here are some of the recent apartment construction on the University's North campus and, toward the background, a portion of the newly purchases North Campus addition. The white line outlines the newly-purchased area, which extends out of the picture to the right. Last month the University announced purchase of some 270 acres east of the North Campus, which expanded the total campus there to 657 acres. The apartments, some of which are occupied, eventually will house some 300 families of students and staff. The foreground shows the start of construction on a number of new apartments.

DISCUSS RESEARCH CENTER: T. C. Anderson (left), a Parke, Davis & Co. vice-president, confers with Mayor William E. Brown, jr., prior to the City Council meeting last night. Anderson, the Detroit firm's director of production and engineering, appeared at the council meeting to express his company's appreciation for co-operation of the council and University on steps to possibly locate a $10,000,000 Parke-Davis Research center in Ann Arbor. The center would be situated in the North Campus area, and its research work would be associated with that of the University. Anderson did not say that Parke-Davis had decided to place the center in Ann Arbor, but he spoke favorably of its location here.

In the foreground the $450,000 Central Service and Stack building nears completion. The $1,00,000 Phoenix Memorial Laboratory, near the center, is well under way. To the right of the laboratory is the completed Mortimer E. Cooley Memorial Laboratory. Three new projects slated for the North Campus later this year and in 1955 are a $1,000,000 nuclear reactor, a $1,850,000 Automotive Laboratory and a housing project for married students.
