Above, Fifth grader Ben Detlefs tends the bacon while Ben Coupeland gets his burger ready to cook. Right, Claire Leonard and Renee Stahl haul firewood back to their group. In addition to learning how to dress warmly, build a fire and other survival skills, the students also cooked a meal.

BEFORE THE FRESH WINDS: The Sea Scout Ship "Trade Wind" made its first trial run of the season yesterday at Portage lake with Bos'n's Mate Ronell White, Ordinary Seaman Fred Cowan and Skipper K. C. Marantette putting her through her paces. The "Trade Wind" is a Grand Banks dory purchased at a Boston fish pier. This boat is similar to the one used in the picture "Captains Courageous."
