Where Gunfire Occurred: Above is the main entrance area of the Holiday Inn West on Jackson Ave. where early this morning police shot one holdup suspect and captured two others. Pieces of cardboard seen taped to the glass of the entry front hide marks left by a flurry of eight bullets fired at one of the fleeing suspects. The holdup attempt was the second at the motel in the past six weeks. In the top picture [this photo] policemen hold the .20 gauge shotgun and two rifles taken from the trio. Left to right are Patrolman Ronald Lee who captured one of the suspects, Detective Sgt. Calvin H. Hicks who ordered officers to open fire when another suspect attempted to use a shotgun, and Lt. Marvin Dann who led his night platoon of officers in surrounding the motel complex. No policemen were injured.
