A Man's Job: Sometimes this shopping business needs a man's touch and concentration. A thrifty shopper visits every stall and compares prices and quality before buying. A producer rents his stall space on a yearly or a daily basis.

Full Baskets: When the legs grow tired and the bundles heavy, it is time for a last look at the shopping list, the food "kitty" and the stands. Make sure the vegetables for supper will be fresh.

First Things: The two most exciting stands in the market, at least from some points of view, are the flower stands and the baked goods. A trip around the market is much more fun with a homemade cookie in hand. The market, which is self-supporting, is under the direction of the Ann Arbor City Council, which appoints a marketing commission. Ben Zahn of W. Washington St. is the appointed Market Master.

Market Day: Since the turn of the century when the Ann Arbor Municipal Market was held on the sidewalk around the old courthouse, local producers have been selling their fruits, vegetables, and flowers as well as other goods to local shoppers. Whether the shopper is curious, hungry or comes equipped with a large market basket, the market is always crowded while people browse, buy or gather to gossip. From June until September the market is open on Mondays from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Guaranteed Fresh: A snack along the way helps relieve the boredom of those who must wait while Mother picks out the vegetables for supper. If this carrot passes the inspection of this young shopper, it's time to move on to the next sample.

Market Traffic Heavy: Traffic crowding the Detroit St. block by the municipal market this morning pointed up the view of the City Market Commission that a larger market site with adequate provision for customers' parking is needed. There now is no offstreet parking for customers at the market.
