WHERE TWO DIED: Two men were killed instantly late yesterday afternoon when this light plane crashed seconds after it took off from the Saline Airport. The dead are Rudolph Schumaier, 44, owner of the airport, and William Beardsley, 49, of Macon.

Probably the first ship of its kind ever to land here, a U. S. Army bomber stopped briefly at the Ann Arbor airport yesterday, on a routine flight from Wright field, Dayton, O., to Selfridge field at Mt. Clemens. Commanded by Lt. M. E. Bradley, the plane also carried as its crew Lt. D. F. Callahan, who was a postgraduate student at the University this year, and Major Philip Schneeberger, as observer. The ship has a 90-foot wing spread and is equipped to carry a ton of bombs. It was originally a Douglas transport, converted for army use.

Literally a nerve center of the terminal, the controlling of flights carried on in the room pictured above was formerly handled in seven separate offices by seven separate airlines at Willow Run. The adding machines on the desks are a few of dozens in use at the airport for totalling the weights of passengers, mail and other cargo.
