Ellsworth Rd., Pittsfield township, is one of 119 city employes to be awarded service buttons and pins at 7:30 p.m. today at a special meeting of the City Council at City Hall. The veteran motor sweeper operator, shown here making a broom for a motor sweeper at the Municipal Garage, has worked for the city for nearly 38 years. Bird, 68, works at the garage when the weather is bad, too cold or rainy.

HEAVY-DUTY SCALE TESTING DEVICE READY: For the first time heavy-duty scales in Washtenaw county can be tested for their accuracy as often as the occasion warrants though a new $2,000 apparatus authorized by the board of supervisors. County Sealer George P. Smith (left), and Duane S. Wiltse (right), garage owner who designed the hydraulic hoist for moving the outfit's 1,000-pound testing weights, are shown in front of the special truck. In front of them is the special balance Mr. Smith built to test the weights. Notice the 1,000-pound weight at the left, which is being suspended by the hydraulic hoist.
