Help on the Way: One of the Ann Arbor areas most congested corners, the intersection of Washtenaw, Carpenter and Hogback just east of the city limits, will be easier to drive through thanks to road work visible in the aerial photo. Washtenaw runs vertically through the center of the photo with Carpenter at the left and Hogback at the right. US-23 crosses at the very top. Among the projects being done to improve the area are improving the turning radius on the entrance and exit rams (upper left of picture) of northbound US-23 onto eastbound Washtenaw, adding a right turn lane in front of Gulf station (middle left of picture), and extending for 270 feet the left turn lane off eastbound Washtenaw onto northbound Hogback. The concrete median on Washtenaw will be revised and shortened to a point closer to the US-23 bridge. Curb and gutter work will be done along the westbound lanes of Washtenaw in front of the Fretter Applicance store (right center of picture). Weather permitting, the project will be completed in about seven weeks.
