Like most garageless Ann Arbor residents this morning, Dr. Robert A. Ostrander was forced to de-ice his car's windshield before going anywhere. The ice film wore an inch of snow frosting. Unlike most Ann Arbor residents, Dr. Ostrander had returned from ice-less Florida over the weekend.

MAKES WORK EASIER: This new red, white and blue truck, received by the Ann Arbor Post Office yesterday, is going to take a lot of the stretch out of delivering mail. The truck, believed to be the first of the new style in this area, has driving equipment on the right rather than the left, making it easier for drivers on mounted routes to deliver mail without reaching across the vehicle. Operating the truck is mounted carrier Jack Schild of 1042 S. Main St.

NEW DOG AMBULANCE: Symbolizing its message, "Be Kind To Animals," the modern new dog ambulance of the Ann Arbor Humane Society (shown in the above photograph) is now in service. The remodeled, panel truck, which has a heater and separate cages for cats and dogs, was purchased for $300 from voluntary contributions. It replaces a smaller one bought for $40 three years ago.

At the county's lone Driver's Licensing Bureau at 3520 Washtenaw, license applications are completed at the rate of nearly one every minute and one-half. On an "average" Wednesday, a heavy-volume day, approximately 450 persons may come in for licenses, renewals or for information.
