Kiwanis Sale - Bargain-hunters are expected to flock to the 60th annual Ann Arbor Kiwanis Sale, which opens Thursday and runs through Saturday. Used furniture, clothing, books, toys and maybe even a few antiques will be offered for sale. Lee Bachman, co-chairman of the sale, shows off a pair of old skis that also will be available. The sale will be held at the Kiwanis Activities Center, at the corner of Washington and First streets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The items on sale are donated and the proceeds will go to support a variety of community service projects. Last year, the sale grossed nearly $60,000.

Hurry Back -- Sydney Smith of Ypsilanti calls to husband Robert, with his arms full of bargains from this weekend's Kiwanis Annual Sale, to hurry back for more. The sale, at 200 S. First Ave., took in about $6,600 for charity on Friday, about $1,500 more than the same day last year. Sales figures for Saturday, when the sale ended, were incomplete this morning, but sale chairman Jim Morgan said "we did real well." Among recipients of proceeds from the sale are Mott Children's Hospital, the Y, and local Scout troops.
