High Art at Ann Arbor Board of Education Meeting, March 1978 Photographer: Larry E. Wright
Year:
1978
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, March 2, 1978
Caption:
High Art - It was just before the start of a dignified meeting of the Ann Arbor Board of Education that the fun began. Deputy Supt. Wiley Brownlee weighted two balloons and floated them across the room. One floated to ex-NOW president Mary Pence said "uppity women unite." The other, sent to teacher union president Larry Stewart, said "take no prisoners," a reference to upcoming contract bargaining. The balloons and others which festooned the board room proclaimed March Youth Art Month and bore the message "you gotta have art." They were presented by Pittsfield Elementary School students.
