SIGN OF THE YULE: The Washtenaw Sheriff's Department mounted posse is shown as it led a parade this morning in the Main St. business area. The parade, which was under the sponsorship of the Main St. Area Merchants Association, signaled the "official" start of pre-Christmas buying downtown. Marchers included high school bands and varied units of the Armed Forces.

PELTED PEDESTRIANS: This scene was typical all over the city late yesterday afternoon as people bucked the worst snowstorm of the season. Before it was finished, the storm dumped 5 1/2 inches of snow on the Washtenaw county area.
