Artist's note: In a career approaching the 40-year mark (he made his New York debut in 1944), Grant Johannesen has achieved international status of the highest order. His superior musician?ship and adventurous programming have made him a favorite of audiences on five continents, as he appears in recital, with the world's major orchestras, and in the world's prestigious summer festivals. In addition to the standard repertoire, Mr. Johannesen is known as a champion of American and French composers, and has played numerous premiere performances of works by contemporary composers. Also a devoted teacher, he is President and Musical Director of the Cleveland Institute of Music, one of the few heads of a major conservatory to pursue a full performance career. Tonight's recital is the artist's seventh appearance in Ann Arbor.
