BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: GEORGE BICKFORD BRIGHAM

George B. Brigham, Professor of Architecture at the University of Michigan, is an architect of wide professional and teaching experience.
Born in Westboro, Mass., in 1889, Professor Brigham received his early education in the Worcester Academy in Worcester, and then enrolled at Massachusetts Institute of Technology for three years of special study in architecture. From 1918 to 1930, he served successively on the faculties of Tufts College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and California Institute of Technology.
For seven years, 1923-1930, Professor Brigham was a practicing
architect in Pasadena, California in addition to his teaching duties.
In the latter years he accepted an appointment as Assistant Professor in the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Michigan, in 1942 was promoted to an Associate Professor, and in 1949 to Professor.
During World War II, Professor Brigham was associated with the War Production Board as Research Director for two house prefabrication
projects.
Professor Brigham is a member of the American Institute of Architects
and of the Michigan Society of Architects, also the Building Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences. He is also a member of the Ann Arbor Society of Architects and served as secretary-treasurer of this group for one year.
In 1914 Professor Brigham married Ilma Ruggles Howe, of Westboro, Mass. They have two daughters and five grandchildren.
