"Plans for the special gifts drive, which precedes the formal Community Fund campaign and already is under way, were made at a meeting of the general campaign chairman, City Attorney William M. Laird, and the chairman and four of the captains in the special gifts division. Seated around the conference table, reading from the right, are: Osias Zwerdling, division chairman; Mrs. Charles A. Fisher and Mrs. Leroy Waterman, captains; Mr. Laird; Prof. Raleight Schorling and Fred T. McOmber, captains; two other captains, George E. Lewis and T. Reardon Peirsol, were absent. General solicitation will begin Oct. 27 and continue through Nov. 2." (Ann Arbor News, October 19, 1938)
