Ann Arbor 1954: When Haile Selassie, emperor of Ethiopia and the "Lion of Judah," was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Michigan in June 1954, News photographer Eck Stanger got this picture of him as he was being escorted through a hall of the Rackham building by U-M Executive Vice President Marvin L. Niehuss. Haile Selassie, one of the world's foremost statesmen, hadn't expected the photographer and was adjusting his uniform.
