Oldest Doctor In Ypsilanti Dies
Dr. Thomas W. Paton Was 70 Years Old

YPSILANTI ̶ Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow at the Geer funeral home here for Dr. Thomas W. Paton, 70 years old, dean of Ypsilanti’s practicing physicians, who died early yesterday in University hospital, Ann Arbor, where he had been a patient since Jan. 10, when he was stricken with pneumonia and heart disease. He was believed to be recovering, but his condition became worse about 24 hours before his death.
Services will be in charge of Rev. David H. Porter, pastor of First Presbyterian church here of which Dr. Paton was a member. Burial will be in Washtenong cemetery, Ann Arbor. Members of the Ypsilanti lodge of Knights Templar will be in charge of the services at the grave.
Born In Almont
Dr. Paton was born in Almont in 1869, a son of Mr. and Mrs. David Paton, graduated from the State Normal college here, and for five years thereafter was first principal and then superintendent of the schools at Iron Mountain. He then entered the medical college of the University of Michigan , from which he graduated in 1902, locating immediately in Ypsilanti, where he has since remained.
He was active in local civic affairs, having been a member of the city council and of various civic and fraternal organizations.
Surviving are his widow, formerly Miss Mary M. Pickett, of Leslie, whom he married in 1895; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Genthe, Wyandotte, and Miss Jean Paton, New York City; one grandson; two brothers, Rev. Robert Paton, Cleveland, and James Paton, Almont; three sisters, Mrs. William Wilson, Ann Arbor, Mrs. Joseph Cottrell, Detroit, and Mrs. Fred Rollins, Almont.
