Orpheum Again Open Week-Ends
The Orpheum Theater, on S. Main St., which last year inaugurated a policy of showing art films, will open its new season Friday, Sept. 23.
Foreign films with English subtitles, documentary films, and revivals of popular American motion pictures will again make up the bill.
Manager Robert Savage said today that because of the requests of patrons, films starring Marx Brothers and W. C. Fields also will be offered.
Shows will be scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, Savage added.
Among the first bookings at the newly-refurbished theater will be "The Pearl,” a Mexican-made film starring Pedro Armendariz, which will be coupled with the documentary "Nanook of the North.”
Other movies scheduled to be shown are "The Search," an English film, "Canterbury Tale;" the Marx Brothers in “A Night at the Opera;” a German technicolor musical, “Die Fledermaus;” and “The Barber of Seville,” starring Ferruccio Tagliavini.
“Red Shoes,” the English-made film about a ballet company, will be shown on a reserved seat basis.
