Pair Stands Mute In Safe Robbery
Trial Slated March 22 In Circuit Court
The two Ann Arbor youths accused of the Sugar Bowl safe robbery stood mute and heard not guilty pleas entered for them in circuit court yesterday afternoon.
James St. Louis of 2365 Jackson Ave. and Ernest Norton of 32642 Catherine St., arrested March 7 by Missouri state police 24 hours after a 200-pound safe was stolen from Preketes Sugar Bowl Restaurant, will go on trial March 22.
They are charged with breaking and entering in the night time. Both were remanded when they failed to furnish a $5,000 bond each.
Officers said approximately $1, 700 in cash was found on the youths when they were arrested six miles west of Pacific, Mo., when Missouri police stopped their car "on a hunch." At the time the men were six miles from possible freedom. They had planned to “ditch” their car in Pacific, Mo., and ride to California by train, police said.
