Report On Bombing Due In Two Weeks
Ann Arbor Police Chief Walter E. Krasny expects to receive a “comprehensive” report on clues found at the scene of a North Campus bombing within two weeks.
It is expected to take that much time for the Washington headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to complete examination of materials confiscated at the University’s Institute of Science and Technology. An explosive device was detonated outside a door on an east wing of the huge, castlelike building located on N. Campus Blvd. The explosion shattered 12 windows and blew out the glass and steel door.
The FBI’s two “bomb experts” who flew to Ann Arbor yesterday completed their examination at the scene at noon today. They told Chief Krasny “tremendous” concussion pressure generated by the bomb caused the windows to blow outward.
While the exact nature of the bomb is still unknown, it is thought dynamite set off with the aid of a crude timing device may have been used.
Damage to the science buildings has been placed at $5,000 and workmen have boarded up windows and the doorway pending final repair work. City police guarded the damaged structure throughout last night and today.
