Pentecostal Studies Group To Meet Here
The Society for Pentecostal Studies announced Pneuma 75 to be held December 4-6 in Ann Arbor. This will be the fifth annual meeting of the society.
Hosts for the meeting will be the charismatic Word of God community. The Word of God community publishes the monthly magazine New Covenant which has become one of the most widely read charismatic publications.
The theme for Pneuma *75 will be "The Charismatic and Pentecostal Movements; Where Are They? Where Are They Going?” With this theme scholars from non-charismatic, charismatic and classical pentecostal affiliations will be gathered for three days of and presentation of papers.
Featured speaker will be Timothy L. Smith, Ph.D., professor of history at the John Hopkins University, where his chief responsibility is a doctoral program in American religious history. Dr. Smith will present two papers: “Radical Wesleyanism and American Culture” and “Speaking the Truth in Love." A graduate of the University of Virginia, his Ph.D. dissertation at Harvard won the Frank S. and Elizabeth B. Brewer prize from the American Society of Church History. His publications include Revivalism and Social Reform and Called Unto Holiness:
The Society for Pentecostal Studies was founded in 1970 as a cross disciplinary scholarly organization to study the classical and charismatic movements. Scholars from around the world hold membership. However, the majority of the members are from the United States.
