Chester (Chet) Ashworth, 69, who has operated a Sunoco gas station at 2630 Jackson Rd. for the past 26 years, will be hanging up his gasoline hose for good this week.
Chet, who has wiped thousands of windshields and pumped air in thousands of tires in all weather, will be retiring all right, but he’ll still be kept hopping, says his wife Ruby, who has been his bookkeeper all those years. She will be retiring right along with him, of course, but she has a million jobs lined up for Chet around the house and big yard at 2915 Kimberly.
“He’s let things go around the house all those years,” she says. The Ashworths also may be buying gas from time to time, since now they’ll have time to travel.
