Action Pledged In U-M Dorm Pot Case
The top University of Michigan housing official says some action will be taken in the case of marijuana purchase with Bursley dormitory funds.
Robert C. Hughes, acting director of housing, said, however, that he is not ready to say what it will be.
Last Friday, the dormitory's board of governors approved spending $400 for a party at the Van Hoosen wing of the dormitory, with $200 of the sum to be spent for marijuana.
Several members of the board have acknowledged the marijuana purchase, including Douglas Steinberg, who is also president of the University Housing Council, the all-campus dormitory body.
At a Bursley dormitory meeting Wednesday, a number of residents spoke disapprovingly of the board's action, saying it threatened future dormitory parties.
The dormitory fund is supported by income from the Bursley store, pinball machines and movie admissions.
