Age 76, died Monday, Sept. 26, 1988 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital following a short illness. He was born July 1, 1912 in New Baltimore, MI the son of Benjamin and Margareth Bitterling Carbeck. He resided in Ann Arbor for 71 years. On June 25, 1938 he was married to Edith B. Davis in Saginaw, MI. Mr. Carbeck was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and a member of the Milan Rotary Club where he was past president and Paul Harris fellow. He was a charter member of the Home Builders Association of Washtenaw County and a member of fraternity lodge No. 262 F & AM, Ann Arbor, MI. Mr. Carbeck received his BS and MS Degree in Wood Technology from the University of Michigan in 1936. He was associated with the building industry in the Ann Arbor area except for a period during World War II when he served as a major in the U. S. Army Air Corps. In 1959 he purchased Universal Home, Inc. in Milan, MI. In 1969 he was joined in the business by his son and he remained active up to the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Edith; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas D. and Karen Carbeck of Milan; one daughter, Susan E. Carbeck of Ann Arbor, three grandsons, D. Scott Carbeck and his wife, Amy, of Chelsea; Stephen Richard Carbeck of Milan and Jeffrey D. Carbeck of Milan; two granddaughters, Joanne E. Lande and Lisa I. Lande of Ann Arbor; two step grandsons, Darrin Cook and Matthew Cook both of Milan; one step great grandson, Nicholas Cook of Milan; one sister, Leona Norman; one brother, Erwin B. Carbeck. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Friday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen Murray officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
