Gelman promotes

MICHAEL PHELAN is GELMAN SCIENCES’ new vice president of manufacturing, and DONNA ORLANDO has been appointed director of corporate materials.

Phelan was promoted from director, manufacturing operations, where he was responsible for the company’s laboratory and process product lines. He now is responsible for the membrane and device division product line as well, which brings all manufacturing operations under his supervision. Employed at Gelman since 1976, Phelan started as maintenance supervisor and has held various management positions. Orlando’s responsibilities include supervision of purchasing, warehousing and logistics, shipping and distribution, planning and scheduling and inventory management. She previously worked for Wang Laboratories Inc. in Tewksbury, Mass., for seven years, most recently as senior materials manager in charge of the design and implementation of Operation Customer. That program covered restructuring of Wang’s worldwide manufacturing operations.
