FOCUS: AUG. 8 ELECTIONS

Pittsfield officials took a sweet deal

Can you walk into your human resources or personnel department and arrange that they double the size of your pending retirement pension? Or can you get a 100 percent vesting benefit reduced from, say, 20-30 years, to just eight years? Pittsfield Township officials did just that. Immediately after they were reelected into their second term, they voted themselves this exact sweet deal.

Taxpayers incurred no cost to enable Pittsfield residents to vote on this recall. Washtenaw County simply puts extra ink on an already planned ballot. But taxpayers will be footing this administration’s tab long into future years if these officials are allowed to finish their self-serving terms.

Don’t be distracted by their rhetoric; they have a lot to lose. Vote “yes” to recall Supervisor James Walter, Treasurer Christina Lirones and Clerk Feliziana Meyer on Tuesday.
